Michigan's Smoke-Free Air Law
Michigan residents and visitors shall soon be protected from exposure from secondhand tobacco smoke in all restaurants, bars,
and businesses (including hotels and motels), thanks to "Dr. Ron Davis smoke-free Air Law".
House Bill 4377 was signed into Law by the Governor in December 2009, and will go into effect on May 1, 2010.
The Law bans smoking in most public places, and in all bars and restaurants.
Some tobacco speciality stores, exisiting cigar bars, and the gaming floors of casinos may be exempted if they meet certain requirements.
The Michigan Department of Comunity Health is named as the education and enforcing agency to implement the new law. Detailed
information about the law, frequently asked questions, and exemptions will soon be available on their web site.
