- Do you ever blame others or circumstances for your drinking?

- Have you ever done or said things while under the influence that you can't recall?
- Do you remain abstinent all week, but drink excessively on the weekend?
- Has your employer ever confronted you about your use?
Would family members or friends agree with your responses?

- You're afraid to invite people over for fear of the substance abuser's condition/behavior
- Your holidays are spoiled because of drinking
- You cover up or lie for the substance abuser's actions/behavior
- You make threats, i.e. "If you don't stop drinking I'm leaving. . ."
- You "tip-toe" around the substance abuser so as not to set off a drinking bout
- She/He is the most wonderful person when they're sober
- You feel you have lost friends and become isolated because of the substance abuser
- Your behavior centers around the substance abuser's behavior
- You make contracts with the substance abuser, i.e. "One more chance" or "you can drink once a week"
Likewise, if you answered "YES" to any of the above questions, you are indicating symptoms of a co-dependent.
